Chapter II. Structure and Leadership of the Institute

  • Art. 9. In conformity with art. 133 of Law 1/2011, the department is the functional academic unit, which assures the production, transmission and dissemination of knowledge in one or more domains of speciality. The department is founded, organised, divided, united or dissolved by the decision of the University Senate, following the proposal of the Faculty Council.
  • Art. 10. In conformity with art. 133, as well as with art. 135, par. 2 of Law 1/2011, the activity of the Institute happens within the following departments (study lines):
    • a) Reformed department (study line);
    • b) Lutheran department (study line);
    • c) Unitarian department (study line).
  • Art. 11. At department level, the director of the department and the members of thre department council are elected by universal, direct and secret vote of all full-time teaching and research staff.
  • Art. 12. The director of the department fulfils the duty of managing and leading the department in an operative manner. In fulfilling this function, she/he is aided by the department council.
  • Art. 13. The PTI has in its structure teaching and auxiliary staff, libraries, laboratories research centres and workshops, student boarding school, canteen and a small medical cabinet. Technical and administrative services, the sport field and student club are also integrant parts of the PTI.
  • Art. 14. The leadership structures in the PTI are:
    • a) PTI Senate and Administrative Council (aka Academic Council), at the university level;
    • b) Faculty Council;
    • c) Department Council.
  • Art. 15. Leading functions in the PTI are:
    • a) Rector, Vice-Rector, General administrative Director, at the university level;
    • b) Dean, Vice-Dean, at the faculty level;
    • c) Department Director, at department level.
  • Art. 16. The Institute functions on the basis of the principle of collective leadership. In conformity with art. 207, par. 8 of Law 1/2011, the election of the persons to occupy leadership functions within the PTI is made with the approval of the Supporting Churches.
  • Art. 17. The nomination and revoking of the persons who occupy leadership positions or are members of governing bodies within the PTI is carried out according to the legislation in force, as well as conforming the methodology concerning the organisation and carrying out of the election of PTI’s academic leadership.
  • Art. 18. Leadership functions defined by the present Charta as well as the quality of membership within leadership structures cease in the following situations:
    • a) by discontinuing the employment contract with the PTI;
    • b) by one’s resignation from the relevant function or quality;
    • c) by the transfer to another unit, different from the one which has elected the person to fulfil the function;
    • d) by the acceptance of the person of a leadership position in another institute of higher education;
    • e) in the case of incapacitation determined by medical causes, which extends longer than 6 months;
    • f) in the case of being absent from the unit for a period exceeding one year, determined by performing further specialisation or research activities as well as being associated professors abroad;
    • g) if it becomes evident that due to other activities performed outside the university, the bearer of a certain function is unable to fulfil the specific duties connected with the position;
    • h) at the written initiative of 1/3 of the electors from within the structure which had elected the person, or at the rector’s proposal with the simple majority of the structure which confirmed the person in the specific position;
    • i) in the case of 3 unmotivated absences from the meetings of the Faculty Council and of the Senate respectively, thus demonstrating lack of interest towards the Institute’s functioning.
