This paper introduces the subject with a scriptural approach, then explores it on the following three levels. Lies in our relationship with God is seen as a sign of mistrust towards him. Lies in the relationship with the other suspends the autonomy of one’s fellow human beings, deny their personal existence and cancels the relationship of trust with them. How can a person lie to himself/herself ? The relationship between lying and identity is conceived as self-deception, loss of freedom and openness.
