Compared to the previous year, the new academic year begins with a somewhat higher number of students - 105 enrolled students. 22 new students were admitted to the undergraduate program for the new year.

The new academic year began on September 20 with the morning opening worship service, at which Szabolcs Bogdán, Bishop of the Reformed Church District beyond the Királyhágó (Partium), preached the gospel. He based his message on Ephesians 4:1-6. In the spirit of that text, he encouraged the students preparing for pastoral ministry to live a life worthy of their calling - something that should become visible in an educational institution both in the community shared with one another and in preparing for ministry and in study alike.

During the service, the Institute graduated its student who completed his studies in the autumn examination period, Sándor Füleki, and commissioned him for church service, so that he may begin it as an assistant minister.

At the Sunday afternoon opening ceremony, Rector Sándor Kovács delivered the opening address. He built his lecture around a brief presentation of the career of János György, a churchman born 150 years ago, who was first a Unitarian and later a Reformed scholar-pastor. The young pastor, educated at Oxford and returning home with a doctorate from Harvard, pursued radical efforts to renew church life and theological education that clashed with the authoritarian structures and value hierarchies of his time. He closed his lecture with questions bearing on present-day concerns: "János György was an uncomfortable person. His life story warns us that no institution is infallible and no individual is infallible. Precisely for this reason we must ask ourselves: are we brave enough to honestly review our own functioning, our curriculum, our habits? Are we willing to engage in substantive dialogue with those who raise uncomfortable questions?"

The denominational distribution of students enrolled in PTI's undergraduate and master's programs is as follows: Transylvanian Reformed Church District 46%, Reformed Church District beyond the Királyhágó 34%, Hungarian Unitarian Church 15%, Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Romania 5%. By gender: men 68%, women 32%.

Significant contributions to the Institute's infrastructural development this academic year came from the diaconal organizations of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands and the "István Juhász" Foundation, whose support made possible the replacement of the Institute's classroom furniture and the installation of smart boards.

During the ceremony, 22 new first-year students took a vow to conscientiously prepare for pastoral ministry over the next six years. The teacher responsible for the new class will be Edit Somfalvi.
